Acceptable Carbon Steel Pipe Quality — Coating Issue Resolved
Ordered 8 tons of round carbon steel pipe, OD 114.3mm, SCH 40, black painted finish, ASTM A106 Grade B, for a mechanical contractor client. The pipe dimensions and mechanical properties per the MTC were correct and delivery arrived in 10 business days as quoted. However, approximately 15% of the pipes in one bundle showed uneven paint coverage with thin spots near the pipe ends, which was a concern for our client's corrosion protection requirement. Raised this with the supplier immediately — they responded within 12 hours and offered a partial credit plus priority supply of replacement pieces on our next order. The issue was handled professionally and the resolution was fair. Mechanical performance of the material itself was not in question. Would give a trial order again to see if coating consistency has improved.
