Why packing matters here
The bore of a honed tube and the surface of a chrome rod are finished surfaces: the seals of the cylinder run on them. A scratch, a dent or a rust spot can make a piece useless. So the packing has two jobs: keep steel from rubbing on steel, and keep moisture out.
How they were packed
1. Crates lined with film. Pieces were laid in wooden crates lined with waterproof film.

2. Bundles wrapped, with slings. Other pieces were bundled, wrapped in film and fitted with fabric lifting slings, so they can be lifted without chains or hooks touching the steel.

3. Crates closed, strapped and marked. Each crate was closed, banded with steel straps and marked with the size, so it can be checked without opening it.

4. Photographed in the container. Crates and bundles were photographed after loading, before the doors were closed.
What to ask your supplier
For honed tubes and chrome rods, ask before you order:
- How will the bore and the chrome surface be protected: rust-preventive oil, end caps, wrapping?
- Crates or bundles? Crates cost more, but protect better on a long voyage.
- Will they send photos of the packing and the loaded container before the ship sails?
For sizes, tolerances and what to check on cylinder tubes, see our product guides.
