Acceptable Galvanized Pipe Quality, Coating Variation Issue Resolved
Ordered 15 tons of hot dipped galvanized steel pipe, 76.1mm OD, 4mm wall, 6m lengths, for resale to a construction client in Indonesia. Coating weight on most pipes met the ASTM A123 specification at 300–350 g/m², but approximately 8% of pipes in one bundle tested below 290 g/m² on our incoming inspection. We raised this with the supplier immediately—they provided a re-inspection report within 48 hours and issued replacement pipes for the affected quantity at no additional freight cost for the shortfall. The resolution process was handled professionally and the replacement batch tested at 380 g/m². Delivery on the original order was 12 days. MTCs were complete and accurate. The coating inconsistency in one bundle is the reason for 3 stars; the after-sales handling was genuinely responsive. Will consider re-ordering if quality control on coating uniformity improves.
