| Property | Parameter | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Product Name | ASTM Standard Steel Bars for Construction | Deformed and plain steel reinforcing bars used in concrete structures |
| Material Grade | Grade 40 / Grade 60 / Grade 75 (ASTM A615); Equivalent: HRB400 / HRB500 (GB), B500B (EN) | Grade 60 is most widely used in structural reinforcement applications |
| Standard Compliance | ASTM A615 / ASTM A706 / ASTM A996 | A615: Carbon steel; A706: Low-alloy steel; A996: Rail/axle steel bars |
| Chemical Composition (C) | ≤ 0.30% (Grade 60, ASTM A615) | Carbon content controls hardness and weldability |
| Chemical Composition (Mn) | ≤ 1.50% | Manganese enhances tensile strength and toughness |
| Chemical Composition (P) | ≤ 0.060% | Phosphorus limited to prevent brittleness |
| Chemical Composition (S) | ≤ 0.060% | Sulfur limited to ensure ductility and weldability |
| Tensile Strength | ≥ 620 MPa (90 ksi) for Grade 60 per ASTM A615 | Minimum tensile strength ensuring structural load-bearing capacity |
| Yield Strength | ≥ 420 MPa (60 ksi) for Grade 60; ≥ 280 MPa (40 ksi) for Grade 40 | Yield point defining elastic limit under construction loads |
| Elongation | ≥ 9% (Grade 60, #8 bar and larger); ≥ 7% (smaller sizes) | Measured over 8-inch gauge length per ASTM A615 requirements |
| Bar Size Range | #3 to #18 (9.5 mm – 57.3 mm diameter) | Standard ASTM bar designations; custom lengths available up to 12 m |
| Length | 6 m / 9 m / 12 m (standard); custom cutting available | Mill lengths or cut-to-order per project specification |
| Surface Finish | Deformed (ribbed) or Plain (smooth) | Deformed bars provide superior bond strength with concrete |
| Application | Reinforced concrete beams, columns, slabs, foundations, bridges, tunnels | Suitable for seismic zones when ASTM A706 low-alloy grade is specified |
| Certification | Mill Test Report (MTR), ISO 9001, AISC, ACI 318 compliance | Third-party inspection and heat traceability documentation available |
| Packaging | Bundled in 2–5 MT bundles, steel-strapped; seaworthy packing for export | Bundles labeled with grade, heat number, and standard marking |
| MOQ | 25 MT per order | Mixed grades and sizes accepted within minimum order quantity |
Ordered 75 MT of #4 and #5 ASTM A615 Grade 60 rebar for a parking structure project in Atlanta. When the shipment arrived, roughly 15% of the bundles had heat number tags that didn't match the mill cert listing, creating a traceability concern for our QC team. I contacted support immediately and they provided corrected documentation and a reconciliation spreadsheet within 48 hours, which satisfied our inspector. Mechanical properties—yield 428 MPa, tensile 641 MPa—were fully compliant. The issue appears to have been a tagging oversight rather than a material problem. Supplier acknowledged the error and has since updated their bundling procedure.
