| Property | Parameter | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Product Name | BS Standard Reinforcing Steel Bars | Deformed and plain steel bars for concrete reinforcement per British Standard |
| Material Grade | B500B / B500C (BS 4449:2005+A3:2016) | Equivalent to EN 10080 Grade B500B/B500C; formerly Grade 460B under BS 4449:1997 |
| Standard Compliance | BS 4449:2005+A3:2016 / BS 4449:1997 | Complies with EN 10080; also references BS 8666 for scheduling and BS 6744 for stainless rebar |
| Chemical Composition – Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.22% (B500B); ≤ 0.50% CEV | Carbon equivalent (CEV) controls weldability; lower C improves ductility |
| Chemical Composition – Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 1.60% | Enhances strength and hardenability of the bar |
| Chemical Composition – Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.050% | Controlled to prevent cold brittleness |
| Chemical Composition – Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.050% | Limited to avoid hot shortness and reduce inclusions |
| Tensile Strength (Rm) | ≥ 540 MPa (B500B); ≥ 540 MPa (B500C) | Rm/Re ratio ≥ 1.08 (B500B); ≥ 1.15 and ≤ 1.35 (B500C) per BS 4449:2005+A3:2016 |
| Yield Strength (Re) | 500 MPa nominal (characteristic value ≥ 500 MPa) | Upper yield strength or 0.2% proof stress; tolerance range 500–650 MPa typical |
| Elongation (Agt) | ≥ 5.0% (B500B); ≥ 7.5% (B500C) | Total elongation at maximum force; higher Agt indicates superior ductility class |
| Ductility Class | Class B (B500B); Class C (B500C) | Class C preferred for seismic and high-ductility structural applications |
| Diameter Range | 6 mm – 50 mm | Common stock sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 mm; custom sizes available |
| Length | 6 m / 12 m standard; cut-to-length available | Coil form available for diameters 6–16 mm; straight bars for larger diameters |
| Surface Finish | Hot-rolled deformed (ribbed) / plain round | Transverse ribs and longitudinal ribs improve bond strength with concrete; mill scale surface |
| Application | Reinforced concrete structures, bridges, tunnels, foundations, seismic zones | Widely used in UK construction, infrastructure, and civil engineering projects |
| Certification | CARES UK, CE Marking (DoP), ISO 9001 | CARES certification is the primary UK third-party approval scheme for rebar compliance |
| Packaging | Bundled in 2–5 MT bundles; wire-tied or steel-strapped | Bundles labeled with heat number, grade, diameter, and standard; seaworthy packing on request |
| MOQ | 25 MT per order (negotiable) | Mixed diameter orders accepted; mill direct or stockholder supply available |
Our first order of 80 tonnes of B500B bars in 20 mm and 28 mm diameters experienced a five-day dispatch delay beyond the originally quoted lead time, which created a short scheduling issue on our bridge project site. After raising the concern, the logistics team provided daily updates and expedited the customs documentation. Bars arrived and were tested by our independent lab – yield strength at 518 MPa, Agt at 5.8%, both compliant with BS 4449:2005+A3:2016. EN 10204 3.1 certificates were accurate and complete. The supplier acknowledged the delay and offered a partial freight credit. Willing to order again given the quality.
