We ordered 30 ASTM A36 H-section plate columns, 500mm deep with 250mm flanges and 12mm web plates, for an industrial shed project. The fabrication quality itself was acceptable — weld inspection per AWS D1.1 was satisfactory and dimensional tolerances were within AISC standards. However, three columns arrived with dented epoxy primer coating due to inadequate transport bracing, which was a concern for our corrosion protection requirements. After raising the issue with photos, the supplier arranged touch-up coating materials and compensation credit within one week. Issue resolved, but packaging for long sections needs improvement.
